Blackhawks fall to Russia in tournament play

Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks boys basketball season ends with tournament loss to Russia

PIQUA – The No. 10 seed Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks fell 78-40 to the No. 3 seed Russia Raiders in OHSAA DIV tournament action.

The Blackhawks raced out to an 8-2 lead at 5:33 in the opening quarter of play getting a 3-pointer each from Jake Dirmeyer and Troy Woodbury and a basket from Xavier Manning.

The Raiders battled back to close out first quarter on a 17-6 scoring run to lead 19-14 after one period of play.

Russia took advantage of a 19-point second quarter while holding the Blackhawks to 6-points to extend its lead to 38-20 with the teams heading to the break.

Period No. 3 had Russia taking the quarter 27-8 to give the Raiders a running clock to open fourth quarter play with a 37-point 65-28 advantage.

The Blackhawks season came to a close with the Raiders taking the final quarter 17-12 with Russia advancing in tournament play with a convincing 78-40 win.

Mississinawa put 9 players in the scoring column led by Matt Posano’s 11-points. Russia had 11 players in the book.

Playing their final basketball game for the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks: No. 3 Jake Kirmeyer, No. 24 Davian Trump and No. 25 Xavier Manning.

Brayden Monnin led Russia and all scorers with a game high 15-points.
