Midmark to drive awareness of cardiovascular disease and accurate blood pressure management
DAYTON, Ohio, Feb. 4, 2022 — Midmark Corp., the only clinical environmental design company providing medical, dental and veterinary solutions that enable a better experience at the point of care, today announced that Bethany Menke, Midmark human resources manager, was nominated to compete in the American Heart Association Woman of Impact campaign. The campaign kicked off today, National Wear Red Day, and will run through April 7.
According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women, causing one in three deaths each year. There are several misconceptions about heart disease in women that could be putting them at risk. Additionally, heart attack symptoms can differ for men and women. That is why Bethany and Midmark will be providing education and sharing information during the campaign to increase awareness about heart disease myths, heart attack symptoms, causes and prevention of heart disease, and proper blood pressure screenings.
Bethany will compete against three other nominees in the Dayton area to increase heart health awareness and drive fundraising for the American Heart Association. The Dayton-area nominee who earns the most points and raises the most funds will receive the Dayton Woman of Impact2022 Award.
Bethany stated, “I’m honored to be participating in the Woman of Impact campaign and appreciate the support of my Midmark Teammates, family and community. I am competing in the campaign because heart disease has affected my family and this is a wonderful opportunity to bring heart health awareness to others to help save lives.”
Lauren Menke, one of Bethany’s three children and a freshman at Case Western Reserve University in the Pre-Professional Scholars Program (PPSP), knows firsthand about the dangers of heart disease. When she was twelve, her father, Bob Menke, collapsed and died of cardiac arrest after the two of them went on a four-mile run. A Midmark Teammate and an avid runner with a clean bill of health, he had a heart condition that was not known but could have been detected with proper check-ups and vascular screenings. In addition to supporting her mother in the Women of Impact campaign, Lauren speaks at the annual 4 Miles for Heart and Health event created in her father’s name—a 5K race in Darke County that includes fundraising for vascular screenings in the community. She also has set a life goal to become a cardiologist and focus on the prevention of heart disease.
In celebration of National Wear Red Day, Midmark will provide blood pressure screenings to its teammates, for which they will receive wellness points for participating as part of the company’s wellness program. In support of the Woman of Impact campaign, Midmark will also match any donation up to $7,500.
Mitch Eiting, global philanthropic and Midmark corporate giving manager, stated, “As a supporter of the American Heart Association, we appreciate Bethany’s commitment to heart health education and saving lives. We are happy to sponsor her to bring more heart disease awareness to our teammates and the community during this campaign.”
