Arcanum’s Madelyn Fearon scores 1,000th career point

NCAA DII Old Dominican signee Madelyn Fearon hits her 1,000th Arcanum Lady Trojans career point in win win over Versailles

ARCANUM – Madelyn Fearon became Arcanum’s newest member of the Lady Trojans 1,000 point career scoring mark while scoring her 13th point of the game in the second quarter of the team’s 54-16 non-conference win over the Versailles Lady Tigers to reach the 1,000 point plateau.

“It was pretty special,” said Fearon. “I didn’t know it was going to be today.”

“Madelyn is a special one and she has some special teammates,” said Arcanum coach, Abbey Moore. “What she can do defensively and determination wise puts her at a new level and a level we need her to be. She stepped it up this year and super happy for her, proud of her but glad that she got it done tonight.”

Fearon stepped to the free throw line late in the first half standing at 999-career points and calmly knocked down the first of two tosses to reach the 1,000 point varsity career mark.

“Honestly, it was just another time at the line,” Fearon said of pressure at the line. “I had a feeling I was getting kind of close but I really had no idea how many points I actually needed so it was just like another free throw for me.”

The game was halted as Fearon’s aunt and coach, Abbey Moore presented the game ball to Fearon at midcourt with the Arcanum senior then presenting the ball to her family in the stands.

“I remember the day that I scored my 1,000th point,” said Coach Moore, a Franklin Monroe alum. “I gave her my basketball, so to be able to see her do it is pretty special. I am very proud of her and can’t wait to see what this team is going to accomplish this year.”

“She came in the locker room after the game and said you didn’t give me your 1,000 point ball but I gave you mine,” Fearon said with a chuckle. “I remember that day – that was pretty special and it’s kind of crazy that I am here right now.”

Following the short presentation, Fearon stepped back to the line to score her 1,001st Lady Trojans career point.

Fearon, a four year Lady Trojans starter recently signed to take her basketball skills to the next level signing with the NCAA DII Old Dominican Lady Panthers while majoring in Education.

“She’s a worker – one of the hardest working kids I know,” Coach Moore stated. “Doesn’t matter what it is she is always giving it her all. Pretty special to see her do it from the sidelines as her coach.”

Fearon took time to thank the many that helped her reach another goal in her Lady Trojans high school basketball career.

“I definitely my teammates, it shouldn’t be about the person who scores their 1,000th point, you wouldn’t be able to do it without your teammates, without them it wouldn’t be possible,” Fearon noted. “Obviously my coaches, my parents and all my family.”
