The Arcanum Trojans Youth Football Camp hosted 80 campers to the four day event
ARCANUM – The Arcanum Trojans completed its youth football camp for grades three through eight with 80 campers attending the four day event.
“It was a lot bigger than I expected,” said veteran coach, Matt Macy.
The Trojans high school football players assisted Coach Macy along with his coaching staff
“Eighty percent of our high school team was out here volunteering and helping,” Macy said. “They get a free day off from conditioning for helping me – they were great.”
Coach Macy and his staff spent time teaching the basics of football before closing out the camp handing out awards.
“Mainly what I wanted them to take away – we did a lot of heads up tackling, how to block, how to position their bodies, how to catch the ball, real basic things but things I need them to know as they go through and get them ready for high school.”
Awards were given to each grade for fastest man in camp, top punter, top kicker and the top passer.
“We gave a hustle award, the Trojan Award,” Macy noted. “We had a sub-5.0 forty run with a couple of our campers so we have some fast young guys.”
Coach Macy summed up the camp and the future of Arcanum football in a few words.
“It is exciting having this many guys out here and not only having all these guys – it’s just a ton of talent that has the varsity coaches excited,” said Coach Macy. “Watching these guys run around, making moves and playing seven-on-seven here at the end. We’re excited about this year but we are really excited about the future of Trojans Football.”
