Lady Trojans back on winning track with straight set win over the Lady Blazers
ARCANUM – The Lady Trojans defeated the visiting National Trail Lady Blazers in straight sets earning a WOAC volleyball match win on the heels of a three match skid.
“We needed this,” said Arcanum coach, Jacie Holman. “We needed this going into the end of our season. We had a really hard start of the season and it wasn’t where we wanted to be as a team.”
The Lady Trojans took an early 12-6 first set lead bringing a Lady Blazers timeout. A second Trail timeout came with Arcanum pushing its lead to 21-8. Arcanum got stuck on 24-points as the Lady Blazers battled back to trail 24-17 bringing a timeout from the Lady Trojans bench. Following three more Trail scores, Arcanum got the final point needed to win the opening set by a 25-20 score.
“We’ve been working on hitting,” Holman noted. “I feel like our passing is there a lot of times but we can’t always get the killer or when our kill is there we can’t always get the passing. We’re really focusing on gelling together as a team and starting to focus in when tournament comes to play our game, not making silly mistakes that are in our control.”
Set No. 2 saw the Lady Trojans jump out to 6-0 advantage and extend its lead to 16-4 with Trail calling for a timeout. The teams exchanged points to close out the set with Arcanum outscoring the Lady Blazers by a point, 9-8 to go up 2-0 with a 25-12 win.
“We still sometimes struggle with finishing those few points,” Holman said. “Sometimes when we go against some good teams where we can’t always put it away – but overall I was really proud of my girls. It is the first time that I feel like since the Greenville Federal (Invitational) that we played together as a team and celebrated each. I walk away tonight as a proud coach.”
Arcanum took advantage of a strong third set start to lead 15-4 on its way to a 25-13 win and close out the night with a sweep of National Trail.
“I’m proud of my girls that we didn’t lay down and we didn’t accept it,” Coach Holman stated. “We came out and we played our game tonight. I have to give a quick shout-out to my assistant coaches. We do so well together and I appreciate everything they bring to the girls every day.”
With the win Arcanum improves to 5-6 overall and 3-4 in conference play. National Trail moves to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
