The Arcanum Village Council met on Tuesday evening to swear in a new full-time police officer.
Benjamin Deitloff, previously of Kettering, was sworn in by mayor Bonnie Millard with Police Chief Marcus Ballinger by her side.
Chief Ballinger said the department is lucky to have Deitloff.
“We feel very fortunate to get ahold of him,” he said. “The last couple of candidates we’ve offered jobs to have turned us down for better paying jobs.”
He added that the department is still hiring full-time officers.
Later on in the meeting, Village Administrator Bill Kessler briefed council that a representative from the United States Department of Agriculture will be visiting Arcanum next week to tour several village facilities within Arcanum, such as the municipal building, wastewater treatment plant and possibly the opera house.
Kessler also told council that village leaf collection is going well. However, he warned village citizens to not put grass clippings on the road, as it’s hard on the machine that the village uses to pick up leaves.
The Arcanum Village Council meets every second and last Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m., at 309 S. Albright St., Arcanum, Ohio 45304. For more information contact the village administration office at 937-692-8500.
