“We have some seniors that have been there before and they’ve been doing a great job leading us,” Arcanum Coach Roger McEldowney
COVINGTON – The Arcanum Trojans traveled to Covington to take on the Buccaneers and Miami Valley in a preseason varsity boys basketball scrimmage.
“We did some good things in all of our scrimmages this year,” said Arcanum veteran coach, Roger McEldowney. “We also we can tell we have some things to work on.”
The Trojans had no trouble putting points on the board and displayed good defense on the night as demonstrated with a 27-2 win over Miami Valley in a single 12-minute period with a running clock.
“We have some seniors that have been there before and they’ve been doing a great job leading us,” Coach McEldowney stated, “and we have a good mix of young kids too that are getting their first taste of varsity basketball.”
“We’re trying some different combinations and figuring out what works so it’s going to be a work in progress but we feel like we have a good foundation,” added McEldowney. “We are getting better every time out – so that’s what’s important.”
Arcanum returns the Trojans’ 2019-2021 leading scorer in 6’1” senior guard Jake Goubeaux along with seniors; 5’9” guard Chad Pitzer, 6’1” guard Ian Baker, 6’0” forward Isaiah Gilmore and 6’5” forward Chase Werling. Also returning is 6’5” junior forward Nick Sharritts to team up with Werling giving the Trojans a strong inside game.
Arcanum travels to Greenville for a Saturday night season opener against the Green Wave.
