Arcanum Lady Trojans down Bradford

No. 5 Arcanum gets big OHSAA win over the Bradford Lady Railroaders

ARCANUM – The Arcanum Lady Trojans earned a 56-35 WOAC victory over the visiting Bradford Lady Railroaders.

“We came out and we played together and we were looking for each other,” said Arcanum coach, Abbey Moore. “That is extremely fun to watch, extremely fun to coach and I know our fans enjoyed it too.”

“Arcanum is an excellent ball club,” said Bradford coach, Chris Besecker. “They have a really solid lineup and they shoot well and for some reason it seems like they shoot it exceptionally well against us whether we have good defense on them or not – when they’re on they’re on.”

Arcanum jumped out to a 15-6 lead after one period of play led by five Madelyn Fearon points including a trey, Taylor Gray with 4-points, a Hailey Unger 3-pointer, Kylee Freeman a 2-point basket and a Meghan McCans free throw.

The Lady Trojans stingy defense and potent offense pushed its advantage to 30-13 at 2:52 in the second before closing out first half play with a 39-15 advantage. Arcanum’s Fearon canned two triples, McCans added a trey and 2-free throws, Unger added 4-points and Emilie Fout and Gray each with a basket. Rylee Canan paced Bradford with 5-points including a 3-pointer and Abby Fike knocked down a triple.

“We played together defensively and that translates on the offensive end too,” Moore said. “That just gets us on a roll and it helps us defensively.”

Arcanum extended its lead to 42-15 with 4:48 on the third quarter clock and closed out third period play with a 45-24 advantage. Unger paced the Lady Trojans with 5-points including a 3-pointer, Fearon 4-points including a triple while Canan was leading Bradford with 5-points including a trey.

The teams battled to an 11-11 fourth quarter with Coach Moore using her entire bench to close out the game.

“Everybody who came in today were focused, we came in with energy and we didn’t skip a beat,” Coach Moore stated. “That is what we got to have and that started with those girls having confidence coming in.”

“Emilie knocking down a shot, Kylee putting big shot on the block in and I had Hannah come in and make a strong move to the hole,” Coach Moore said of her bench. “Those are things that we got to have and Kaitlyn Toy coming in and bringing that energy defensively and being able to rebound is huge for us.”

Hailey Unger led Arcanum and all scorers with a game high 19-points.
