Arcanum Lady Trojans JV earns 42-6 WOAC victory over Tri-County North Lady Trojans
ARCANUM – The Arcanum Lady Trojans JV squad defeated the Tri-County North Lady Panthers JV team 42-6 prior to honoring five Lady Trojans seniors on Senior Night
“I told them go out and have fun – you have three games left together,” said Arcanum JV coach, Stevie Johnting. “Leave you’re mark on the floor and give it all you’ve got and that is what they did tonight.”
With five Lady Trojans filling the five varsity starting positions on the court it makes for younger players that on most years would be dressing and starting varsity to patiently wait for the next season for their time in the sun.
“We said from the very beginning of the year that you know your role on the team and if you know your role and you fulfil your role then it is going to get you to the next level, it’s going to get you to the next step.” Johnting noted. “They have all done an amazing job accepting their role and working hard so that they can fill the next role that is to come which is those five seniors.”
“Competition at practice is so fun practicing and just having so many girls that love each other so much,” continued Johnting. “They also compete and make each other better and that’s what we ask for I am very excited to see what next year’s to come and it will definitely be a year of rebuilding and a year of testing to see if we were ready or not
Arcanum bolted out to an 11-0 lead after one period of play getting 7 Ashlyn Miller points including a 3-pointer and a basket each from Mackenzie Byrne and Hannah Kendig.
The Lady Trojans jumped ahead 21-0 before the visitors would find the scoring column at 2:28 in the second quarter sending the teams to the halftime break with the Lady Trojans junior varsity team holding a commanding 24-2 lead.
Alexis Gibbons paced Arcanum with six second quarter points including a trey, Miller added 5-points including her second triple of the first half and 2-2 at the line, Lily Johnting added a 2-point basket.
Arcanum hit double digits for the third consecutive quarter while holding the Lady Panthers to a single basket in third period play giving the home team a 36-4 advantage with one quarter to play.
Miller, Gibbons and Rylee Leeper each buried 3-pointers, Isabella Harleman went 2-2 at the charity stripe and Byrne added a free throw to close out third quarter scoring.
Arcanum saw 11-Lady Trojans hit the hardwood in the win while outscoring TCN 6-2 in the final period of play for a running clock 36-point win.
“I played all 11 of them – all 11 of them knew the game plan,” said Coach Johnting. “They went out there, they played hard and that is all I ask for. It was fun to watch them all play tonight.”
“I am very excited to see what’s to come next year,” she added. “It will definitely be a year of rebuilding and a year of testing to see if we were ready or not.”
With the product the Lady Trojans JV are putting on the 2021-2022 court, next year looks very promising.
Miller led Arcanum and all scorers with a game high 15-points. Gibbons was close behind with 13 points for the Lady Trojans.
