ARCANUM – The Arcanum Lady Trojans defended their home court winning a WOAC volleyball match in straight sets over the visiting Mississinawa Valley Lady Blackhawks.
“We needed a confidence booster,” said Arcanum coach, Macey O’Dell. “Hopefully tonight was it and we move forwards.”
Arcanum struggled early in the opening set trailing 13-5 bringing a timeout from the Arcanum bench before battling back to knot the score 17-17 only to have the Lady Blackhawks go back on top 24-21 with the Lady Trojans staring at a possible first set loss.
“I was very frustrated,” O’Dell stated. “I called that timeout early in the set and ripped into them about – we have to come out stronger than that. We just can’t come out and start so slow.”
The Arcanum squad righted the ship and used a 5-0 run to close out scoring and take the first set by a 26-24 score and lead 1-0 on the night.
Mississinawa Valley took a 3-2 lead to open set No. 2 with Arcanum rebounding to go up 6-5. The Lady Trojans rattled off nine unanswered point to lead 14-5 and never looked back on its way to a 25-16 second set win with Taylor Gray leading the change with a strong showing at the net.
“She’s strong,” Coach O’Dell said of Gray. “We one hundred percent rely on her every night – we at least rely on her to get double digits on kills. She is a huge threat in that front row.”
The third and final set of the night had Arcanum jumping out to a 6-0 advantage and a double digit 12-2 score before settling in on a 21-14 third set win and a 3-0 WOAC Thursday night victory.
