The Arcanum Trojans boys youth basketball camp host more than 50 campers
ARCANUM – The Arcanum-Butler three-day boys youth basketball program completed its 2022 summer camp with more than 50 campers taking in the three day annual event under the direction of veteran Arcanum Trojans head varsity basketball coach, Roger McEldowney.
“I have my whole coaching staff here,” McEldowney said. “They have helped the whole time. They are doing a wonderful job and I just appreciate those guys especially Matt Grote. He has really taken charge.”
“We try to come up with a good plan to get these guys some skill and really it’s all about the other players and coaches that are here working with these kids,” Grote said. “Kids are having fun, that’s the main thing and learn a little basketball while they’re doing it.”
Varsity assistant coaches Matt Grote and Shoe Kramer along with junior varsity coach Kevin Brackman, freshman coach Mark Weisman, eighth grade coach Colton Troutwine and seventh grade Jesse Warner with assistance from high school players rounded out the camp staff.
“They are a good group, they help out a lot,” Coach McEldowney stated. “I have a daughter getting married on Saturday so Matt says, I’ll take care of it – just show up, if you have to leave, just leave. He has helped me out a lot.”
“We are doing a lot of dribbling and a lot of shooting,” Grote said. “The younger group we work on right fundamentals like using left hand, left hand layups, keeping your eyes up when you’re dribbling. As the kids get a little older they’re doing more things with their shooting, footwork and having a good time.”
