Arcanum boys get road win at Bradford

Parker Davidson paces Bradford with 39-points, Trojans' Nick Sharritts scores 34-points in Arcanum's WOAC win

BRADFORD – The Arcanum Trojans and the Bradford Railroaders met in a Tuesday night WOAC matchup on the Roaders home court in a game that would go to Arcanum by a 72-65 score.

“We’re a little bit slower pace than what this game was but we were able to adjust to the style and took it advantage of the transition, get the ball inside to our big guys before their defense was set,” said Arcanum coach, Roger McEldowney.

“I’m proud of the boys,” said Bradford coach, Jay Hall. “They played hard, they gave it what they had but we have to get back to what made us successful in December defensively.”

Bradford’s 6’3” Parker Davidson would lead all scorers with a game high 39-points while the Trojans 6’5” Nick Sharritts was knocking down 34-points on the night but it was a total team effort for both squads as the teams battled to the wire.

“Nick had a big night for us but Bradford plays hard,” McEldowney stated. “Coach Hall does a good job, they are well coached and Parker was a handful – he was hard to handle.”

Arcanum took an 18-14 lead at 1:56 in the first only to have Bradford battle back and close out first quarter scoring on a 5-0 run to lead 19-18 after one complete.

Davidson was good for 11 Bradford first quarter points including two 3-pointers while Sherritts was cleaning up in the paint with 13 Arcanum points with the two “bigs” setting the stage for the night.

“You have to give our guards credit because they were the ones breaking the pressure, handling the pressure, throwing it in there and Nick did a nice job of finishing,” said Coach McEldowney.

Period No. 2 went to Arcanum 18-15 with Goubeaux picking up the Trojans scoring with 8-points including a trey. Davidson hit double figures for the second straight quarter accounting for 10 Bradford points sending the teams to the break with Arcanum leading 36-34.

Arcanum stretched its lead to 45-36 to open third quarter play before the Railroaders battled back to close out third period action with the Trojans 1-point better at 19-18. Sharritts again made his presence known in the paint with 13 Arcanum points and at the opposite end Davidson was knocking down 11 Railroaders points. Arcanum owned a 55-52 advantage heading to the final period of play.

Fourth quarter play went to Arcanum 17-13 with Davidson accounting for all 13 Bradford points. Arcanum took advantage of 6-points each from Sharritts and Bryson Sharp and five Goubeaux points to earn a 7-point WOAC victory.

“Jake played really well off the bench again,” McEldowney noted. “I know he is still struggling with that toe but he made some huge shots for us down the stretch. Isaiah Gilmore played really well for us. Garrett Garno did a great job defensively on Parker. I know he got a lot of points but he made him work for a lot of those.”

“Our effort is there but we have to find a little bit more discipline – combine that effort with discipline and then we can get back to being successful,” Coach Hall stated. “We’re going to come back tomorrow and work on that and try and get ready for Friday night.”

Davidson led Bradford and all scorers with a game high 39-points. Sharritts paced Arcanum with 34-points on the night.
