ANSONIA—Motorists coming through Ansonia should be reminded that starting Monday, the bridge on North Main (also known as State Route 118) between the 300 and 400 block of a residential area, will be closed for two weeks, weather-pending.
This is solely an Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) project.
“It is their bridge,” said Ansonia Village Administrator Tom Welbaum. “They are not going to take out the whole structure, just taking the deck off.”
According to him, it is much needed.
Plans are to repair deteriorated deck edges and resurface the bridge deck; patch the sidewalk; reface abutments with self-consolidating concrete and anodes; encase pier columns; and seal all concrete surfaces.
Welbaum, who has been village administrator for the past 13 years, understands that there will be some work done underneath the bridge as well.
“After the two weeks, ODOT is supposed to open up one lane until the work is complete,” he said. “It will be a cement bridge.”
He foresees no problems within this time frame.
“We can put up with it for what benefits come out of it,” he concluded.
Detour signs are to be installed to assist motorists in their travels.
