Ansonia Tigers Football Season Preview 2021

The Ansonia Tigers Football team will kick off the season at home vs Riverside on Friday August 20th.

The Tigers went 5-1 overall last year and 4-1 in the CCC in a shortened season due to Covid.

Impact players returning from last year’s squad are Tytus Gasper, Peyton Beam, Jackson Shellhaas and Connor Schmit.

Gasper is a 6’1 senior and was lineman on offense and linebacker on defense and was a 2nd team all-conference performer last year.

Beam is another 6’1 senior and was featured as a running back on offense and a lineman on defense.

Shellhaas is a 5’11 junior running back and a defense back.  He was a special mention all-conference performer last year.

Schmit is a 6’2 junior and was instrumental in the kicking game as the kicker and punter and a special mention in the conference.

Offensively the Tigers we will line up in the Wing-T and use the Spread … but you can still expect to see them run old school T formation as the Tigers like to line it up and run right at you.

Defensively Ansonia will line up in a 3-3-5 defense and while they will be small they will try and use the teams’ strengths which is toughness, conditioning and their speed.

This will be the second-year season at the helm for coach Matt Macy.  Macy believes the  keys to being successful this fall will depend on the development of the younger guys on the team.

“We have great seniors and I believe we can be very competitive; our goal is to win the WOAC and have a good run in the OHSAA Region 28 playoffs,” Macy stated.

Macy sees Tri-Village, Arcanum, National Trail, and Tri-County North as teams to beat in order to be in the hunt for a title.
