Ansonia Lady Tigers down Lady Jets

Ansonia Lady Tigers knock down seven 3-pointers in WOAC road win at Franklin Monroe

PITSBURG – The Ansonia Lady Tigers rolled into Franklin Monroe Thursday night and came away with a 53-37 WOAC win over the Lady Jets.

“The girls played hard and I’m extremely proud of them,” said Ansonia coach, Bruce Davison.

The Lady Tigers had the hot hand in the opening period knocking down three 3-pointers, one each from Maddie Buckingham, Emma Barga and Brenna Schmit to take the first quarter 17-11.

Franklin Monroe battled back in the second with 9-points while Ansonia was adding 6-points to the board with treys from Lauren Burns and Abby Kramer sending the game to the halftime break with the Lady Tigers holding a slim 23-20 advantage.

Period No. 3 went to Ansonia 11-8 to give the Lady Tigers a 6-point 34-28 lead with one period to play. Bailey Schmit paced Ansonia with 5-points in the quarter including a 3-pointer.

Ansonia put the game away in the fourth period outscoring the home team 19-9 led by 7 Kramer points, Buckingham with 5-points, a Burns triple and a basket each from Barga and Brenna Schmit to give the Lady Tigers a 16-point win.

“It’s a balance attack and the girls played pretty well together sharing the ball and looking for others,” Davison said. “When you step on the court it’s not just simply what can you do to get better as an individual but what can you do to help the team.”

The Ansonia squad has struggle from the 3-point range shooting just 14-percent as a team beyond the arc coming into the night but this night the Lady Tigers lit up the nets for seven 3-pointers leading to the win.

“We had balanced scoring tonight,” noted Davison. “We looked for opportunities, more discipline and patience. We have been working on our shot selection and it paid off tonight.”

Skylar Bauman led Franklin Monroe and all scorers with a game high 16-points. Ansonia got balanced scoring with seven Lady Tigers getting in the scoring column including three players in double figures; Buckingham (12), Kramer (12) and Schmit (10).
