Ansonia Girls 2021-22 Basketball Preview

ANSONIA – The Ansonia Girls Varsity Basketball team will be looking to improve on last year’s 4-15 record as they enter the Western Ohio Athletic Conference 2021-22 season.

The Tigers will be guided by Bruce Davison as varsity coach and assisted by Ericka Kramer and junior varsity coach Yvonne Burns.

Ansonia returns two seniors 5’7” senior forward Lauren Burns and 5’4” guard Emma Barga.

Apart from the two seniors the Tigers will be very young with 4 sophomores and 1 freshman on the varsity squad.  

The Tigers didn’t have one dominant player last year with two freshman Maddie Buckingham is a 5’2” sophomore guard and Brenna Schmit another guard at 5’5” who was the leading scorer at 6.7 points a game, Abby Kramer a 5’6” forward and Bailey Schmit all contributed as freshman will have a year of experience under their belt and looking to step up their roles this season.

Ansonia will only play a varsity schedule this year.

Coach Davison will primarily play a man-to-man defense and run a continuity type offense.  He looks for Tri-Village, Bradford and Arcanum to be the teams to beat in the WOAC.

The Tigers played their first game of the season and right out of the gate went up against Arcanum and fell to them by the score of 66-22.  The Tigers Abby Kramer with 8 points and Brenna Schmit with 7 points.  Lauren Burns pulled down 8 rebounds in the loss.

Dale Barger / Sports Editor

Dale Barger is a lifelong sports enthusiast and has covered high school athletics for nearly 20 years in Southwest Ohio and now becomes sports editor for Darke County now. For 18 years Dale has been a sportswriter for The Daily Advocate and has been published in online sorts magazines and conference websites. Dale is also an accomplished photographer who has captured thousands of athletes in action over the years. Dale is a member of The Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association and was a 2019 recipient of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Southwest District Media Service Award. Dale lives on a 72-acre farm outside of New Madison, Ohio and is married to Rita Ann (Fourman) Barger and together they have two sons and three grandkids.
