The Lady Tigers come up short in tournament play with Yellow Springs
COVINGTON – The Ansonia Lady Tigers bowed out of tournament play with a 3-1 loss to the Yellow Springs Lady Bulldogs.
“We played good – there were a few things we worked on,” said Ansonia coach, Darcy Buckingham. “We just didn’t execute like we have been working in practice the last couple times.”
Ansonia held leads of 6-3 and 11-9 in the opening set before the Lady Bulldogs evened the game at 11-11 and went on to a 25-18 win to lead 1-0.
Yellow Springs held the lead from the opening tip in set No. 2 to the final point taking the game, again by a 25-18 score.
“Yellow Springs is a scrappy team so I can’t take anything away from their scrappiness,” Buckingham noted. “We just didn’t play up to our complete power.”
Set No. 3 had the Lady Tigers facing elimination without a win on the night trailing 11-8 before Ansonia battle back to close out the set on a 17-4 scoring run to earn a double digit 25-15 victory and send the tournament match to a fourth set.
Ansonia trailed early in the fourth game 3-1 but worked its way back to 9-9 and 10-10 ties only to eventually fall by a 25-18 score for the third time of the night.
Seven Ansonia seniors played their final volleyball match for the Lady Tigers: Alyssa Noggler, Molly Barga, Aubrey Noggler, Kenzie Singer, Neleh Schlarman, Kylee Winner and Alexis Morrison.
“I have had them since seventh grade so it’s a tough one to watch go so,” said Coach Buckingham of her seniors. “They are all great kids. I’ve had a heck-of-a ride with them. That’s what we’ve been wanting so we went out with a bang. We proved our point so we’re good.”
