ANSONIA – The Ansonia Lady Tigers defeated the visiting Bradford Lady Railroaders in straight sets to earn a WOAC volleyball win.

Ansonia got off to a slow start with the Lady Railroader pushing the Lady Tigers to the limit in the opening set before losing 26-24 to the home team.

“I was at work so I ran in halfway through the first set,” said Ansonia coach, Darcy Buckingham. “We’re just not a morning team for some reason. It always takes us a good half of a set or first set to get fully awake and get going. Once I got here and kind of got on them it seems like they woke up a little bit and started playing.”

“We haven’t had any early practices but it is something I have been thinking about here lately – especially towards tournament time,” Buckingham continued.

Set No. 2 went to the Lady Tigers by a double digit 25-15 score.

Ansonia took the final set of the day 25-17 to earn the WOAC win and improves to 3-2 in conference play and 6-8 overall. Bradford falls to 4-10 overall and 2-5 in WOAC action.

“Alyssa Noggler has stepped up here,” Coach Buckingham said of her senior player. “I am missing my second setter and she has stepped up and taken the second setter position. She is playing all around, setting out of the back row and playing her front row spot normally.”

“She stepped up pretty big but today it was a great team effort,” added Buckingham. “Everyone contributed, everyone did their job and that’s what happens when everybody does their job – we come out with a win.”
