Annie Oakley Festival to celebrate 58th year with free, family-friendly fun

GREENVILLE— In its 58th year, the Annie Oakley Festival is back Friday, July 29 to Sunday, July 31 at the Great Darke County Fairgrounds.

The festival features a wide variety of activities for everyone in the family to enjoy, such as live entertainment, performances, contests, shows, bus tours, and so much more. Returning this year:
  • Richard Best as our very own “Buffalo Bill” Richard Best is also honoring us by being our 2022 Annie Oakley Parade Marshal
  • The Melodrama performing ” A Fluteful Heist”
  • The American Western Arts Showcase and the American Whip Artistry by Gery Deer
  • 1st Ohio Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association
  • Fast Draw Competition
  • Annie Oakley Car Show
  • Annie Oakley Small Dog Races and Costume Contest
  • National Kiddie Tractor Pullers Association
  • Free Historical Bus Tours
  • Annie Oakley Festival Parade

Another event featured, for the second year,  is the Annie Memorial Shoot – “Classic Annie” and “Classic Frank” – This competition takes place on Friday, July 29 at 6 p.m. Practice is from 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. The contest is open to anyone over the age of 19. Prizes will be awarded to both the “Classic Annie” and “Classic Frank.” There will also be a costume contest. More information is available on the festival website. Contest registration is $20, and can be done early by filling out a registration form available on the website, or contests can register the night of the contest.

“The Annie Oakley Festival is a great festival to come to,” said JoEllen Melling, President of the Annie Oakley Festival Committee. “It’s a free event, and we look forward to speaking to people about the history of Annie Oakley and what she means to Darke County. We, as a committee, strive to bring a festival that honors Annie Oakley and her memory.”

The 2022 Miss Annie Oakley Contest officially gets started on July 6, with a contest photo, but the contest preliminaries kick off on Wednesday, July 27. Finals for the contest are on Thursday, July 28 at 6 p.m.

The 2022 Little Miss & Mr Contest registration begins on Wednesday, July 27 at 4:30 p.m., with the contest that same day at 5 p.m.

On Saturday, the 2022 Annie Oakley Festival Parade will arrive in downtown Greenville at approximately 10:15 a.m. The parade follows the Breast Cancer Awareness 5K that same morning. So far, the parade will include the Greenville Senior High School band, Tri-Village band and the T.R.S.S. Drum Corps of Dayton.

The festival will feature musical performances from Jeff Hittle, Spittin’ Image, Adam Liette and Noah Back. In addition, the 2022 Annie Oakley Festival Car Show will be on Sunday afternoon. Sign up from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., judging starts at noon.

Don’t forget your dogs. The 2022 Annie Oakley Small Dog Races & Costume Costume Contest is on Sunday afternoon. Sign up at noon, race starts at 1 p.m. and the costume contest (any breed) is at 12:30 p.m.

There will also food trucks and craft vendors. The festival committee encourages attendees to bring blankets and chairs, or sit in the grass and watch the plethora of events available.
